Evaporation & RO reject ponds

Evaporation ponds and RO reject ponds are among the most demanding liner applications in the Kingdom. They combine large exposed areas, concentrated brine, extreme surface temperatures and years of UV. The liner is often the only barrier between the brine and the groundwater.

Typical liner systems

  • Single HDPE liner on a prepared subgrade, where the design allows
  • Double liner with a leak detection layer between the two geomembranes, for higher-risk effluent
  • Protection geotextile where the subgrade or cover material could damage the liner

Designing for Saudi heat

Exposed black HDPE gets very hot in the sun and expands and contracts with the daily temperature swing. Plan the panel layout, welding times and anchorage so the liner lies flat without bridging at the toe of slopes. For long UV exposure, specify material that meets GRI-GM13, which sets minimum carbon black and antioxidant requirements.

How we deliver it

  • Material to GRI-GM13 with manufacturer certificates
  • Fusion and extrusion welding with our own equipment
  • Vacuum box and spark testing; peel and shear tests on site
  • Detailed daily reports and handover documentation

Operation and maintenance

Salt and sludge have to be removed periodically, and equipment is the main cause of liner damage. Protected access and a clear procedure for cleaning crews help the liner last. Damage can be repaired with extrusion-welded patches.
